The State’s only corroboration for its informants was a red truck: Emma Rodgers told police that on the night of the murders she passed a slow-moving red extended-cab pickup with dark-tinted windows and a burned-out left headlight near 221 Greenwood Drive. Tony Hunter had leased a red Ford F-150 three days earlier, on March 7, 2001 — and that very night, an OPSO sergeant pulled him over in it, citing him for speeding and an open container. Not for a defective headlight. And the truck had factory glass, not aftermarket tint. (R. 2081, 183; 2022 application.)
When investigators seized and processed that truck in May 2001 — Luminol, vacuumed upholstery, hair and fiber collection — every result came back negative, and Detective Harris testified it had two functioning headlights and factory tint when he examined it. (R. 174, 2102, 2104, 2194.)
The other half: the jury heard Emma Rodgers’s account and convicted; the courts have treated the truck evidence as corroborative.
