Every alleged jailhouse confession in this case runs through one man: Glen Dale Nelson, the inmate to whom Tony Hunter supposedly confessed through a Pod 10 window. In February 2026, attorneys reached Nelson by phone. The certified transcript is now public in full. What he said, in his own words: “Those guys stated that Hunter made a confession in the presence of me and some other people. That didn’t happen… He didn’t confess that. He just didn’t do that. He didn’t. That was not the truth. That’s a lie.”
He also described what happened before trial: the DA wanted him to testify; his lawyers read him the informants’ statements; he said “this never happened” and pled the Fifth — even though, in his words, there was “somewhat” of an offer that “everything was going to kind of go away” if he cooperated. The other half: Nelson’s reliability is contested in every direction — the trial prosecutor himself swore Nelson was “totally unreliable.” That is precisely why we publish the transcript rather than characterize it: read it and weigh it. No court has held a hearing on it; the district court called the Nelson materials cumulative, a ruling now challenged in the pending writ.
